I’ll be at the @kunstlint Art Christmas market this afternoon from 2pm to 5pm again. Pop over for a looksie, a cup of tea, and a chat if you’re in the area.

We have lovely gifts available from a variety of artists in our neighborhood. I have a selection of my small original artworks at the market, selling for between 40 Euros and 85 Euros - lovely for holiday gifts for someone special. And I still have several packs of greeting cards available too. Hope to see you there!

I’m really pleased with the framing job I did with “Summer Landscape.” I love how the wood panel really does visually float in the frame - even more so than a canvas painting. And the natural wood looks lovely with the painting’s palette.

I know this time of the year can be an especially difficult season for those who are grieving so I’m offering my grief support workbooks for 30% off through the holidays.

For those who have found me in recent years: My first career was in grief support and training grief support professionals in methods of incorporating creativity into their work. In 2020 I committed to my art full-time so I no longer offer grief support sessions or training, but these two books I authored remain available.

Remembering For Good is a brief primer on the cultural myths about how we “should” grieve and the more liberating and hopeful ideas we can learn from contemporary research on grieving. It includes journaling prompts.

Untangle Your Grief offers an in-depth guided creative process for exploring and unpacking your loss and grief, to create meaning, connection, comfort, and hope. I wrote it especially for people who are struggling with losses that are ambiguous, stigmatized, invalidated, invisible, chronic, multiple, complex, or ongoing. It’s also suitable for processing grief over the death of a loved one or someone with whom you had a tricky relationship.

These paintings somehow paradoxically feel both calming and energizing. Just like the ocean feels for me.

And I love how well they work in these simple, uncluttered, neutral-coloured interiors.

This is the second in a series of 3 (or 4, if the 4th one works out!) paintings. See my previous post for the first painting. Two things about these paintings make me especially happy:

1.) The simplicity. It takes a lot of courage and restraint to keep it simple and spacious! I love how peaceful and vibrant these feel with that simplicity though. And the simplicity of the composition beautifully compliments the very subtle textures and layers that you can enjoy when you take it in from close up.

2.) The contrast of thick paint with delicate transparent layers. I love the interest and depth created by this contrast. And I love how I can feel the flow and lightness of water and sky in the transparent, vivid blue layers, and the gravity and ruggedness of the rocks in the thick, dark opaque marks. Transparent layers require courage too because, unlike with thick opaque paint, you can’t just paint over something that’s not working. You only get one shot, or two maybe, to apply your transparent layers. More layers and you start to lose the transparency and lightness!

The title of this collection comes from a poem about spiritual connectedness and transcendence through delight and play by Hafiz, titled, “A Suspended Blue Ocean.” I love the poem’s call to have fun… that’s very much what I felt the sea calling me to in Cornwall, and how I felt creating this series!
