25 Years of Culture in Leidsche Rijn – 22 October 2023

On 22 October, the Historical Society, in collaboration with Cultuur19 and De Vrijstaat  is celebrating our neighbourhood’s 25th birthday by honouring the designer of our neighbourhood, urban planner, Riek Bakker, and spotlighting “the cultural wealth of Leidsche Rijn.”

Six of my paintings from my “Wandelen” collection, inspired by my walks in the beautiful park in our neighbourhood, Maxima Park, will be displayed alongside other local artists’ beautiful work.

I’m pleased that the community wall-hanging that I helped to create for Utrecht city’s 900 year celebration will be on display too.

I feel so lucky to have landed in such a wonderful neighbourhood that’s all the things we hoped for and more … beautiful green spaces, an extensive and safe network of cycle paths, friendly residents from diverse nationalities and cultures, quick access into the old city, and abundant opportunities to be a part of sports, arts, and community-building groups. It feels really special (and beyond my wildest dreams just 20 months after we arrived) to be included in this event celebrating our neighbourhood.
